Ennobled Knights' ennobling grace
Their binding oath "Defend the Faith'
De Payen's dream grew on apace
A band of Christian Knights to raise.
To guard the cleric and the lay
To guide the pilgrim on his way
The heathen hand shall not hold sway
Where God's own Son had died that day.
The Patriarch then clasped the hand
And granted rights throughout the land
Lodged near the Temple Kings had planned
From this was named our Templar band
Foul Phillip Fair the king of France
Led Clement on his ghastly dance,
Thus Satan Christians did entrance
With jealous lies of necromance.
So Christendom's most valiant Knight
Was captured with the dawn of light
By prior consent without a fight
Such perfidy -a ghastly sight'
De Molay overcame torment
And cried, "Alas my life is spent
Forgive me Lord. l do repent,
Those tortured lies now recant."
Across the seas 'neath sky of slate,
The remnant fleet escaped that fate
And in stone their Red Cross spatulate
Incised above Kilmartin's Gate.
Fleeing from veiled Peter's Dome
A haven found on Scotia's loam,
Where outlawed Bruce defying Rome
Did try to send King Edward home.
Having reached this land so fair
Where Poet slept in Lion's lair
And each the other met with care
Beside the sword they set the square.
Today still Satan does conspire
By preying on man's base desire
To lure him from aspiring higher
And tempt him near the hellish fire.
Our Ruddy Cross we still fly high
Our Saviour's blood to honour by
Like brave de Molay hear us cry
'Before dishonour -let me die!"
What profit man if deeds be known
'Fore flesh rots off the skull and bone
Carve on my grave my sword alone
My name's invisible in stone.
Though life be short or life be long
We warriors joined in noble throng
Defend the Faith-put right the wrong
Rise Fratres cry, "A BEAUSEANT"
Em. Fra John Milgrew HGH,
Past District Mareschal.
