Provincial Priory of Northumberland Visit

On the Saturday 20th of September 2008, in the company of the District Grand Prior, Rt.Em. Fr. John McKee, and four other members of the District Grand Priory of Strathclyde, namely Em.Fr. Tom Wilson, and Fraters Robert Stanfield, Peter Anton and Alex Morrison Jn. I attended the Annual Chapter of the Provincial Priory of Northumberland.

The day started at 10:30 a.m. with a service (Matins) in the Church of St. Thomas the Martyr in Newcastle upon Tyne followed by the Provincial meeting in the Civic Centre where the processions began at 11:50 a.m..

After the close of the meeting we were requested to join the Provincial Prior, R.E.Kt. Roderick Alan Hume for a pre-luncheon reception at 1:30 p.m.

We attended the Annual Luncheon at 2:00 p.m. in the Banqueting Room of the Civic Centre, which is indeed a splendid apartment with the ceiling ornamented with the Coat of Arms of all the Provosts of the city, a great number of which had an obvious connection to Masonry.

All were treated to an excellent luncheon, the menu I will not disclose in case the reader starts to water at the mouth, suffice to say that it was thoroughly enjoyed by all present.

At the end of the luncheon we thanked our hosts for a very enjoyable day, the warmth of their welcome on our arrival and the courtesy shown to us throughout the day.

I am looking forward to visiting the Provincial Priory of Northumberland as the new District Grand Prior of Strathclyde in September 2009 accompanied, I hope, by a good number of Fraters from our District.

Rt. Em. James M Pettigrew PP
District Grand Prior of Strathclyde
