On Saturday 12th September 2009 I had the pleasure to attend the Annual Chapter of the Provincial Priory of Northumberland held in Newcastle upon Tyne. I was delighted to be accompanied by seven members from the District of Strathclyde, namely, Em. Fr. Robert S.M. Stewart, Em. Fr. Tom Wilson, Em. Fr. John M. McAlpine, Ven. Fr. Garry H.Caldwell, Ven. Fr. Robert D. Stanfield, Ven. Fr. Alex Morrison Jn., and Frater John Pollock.
We attended the Divine Service (Mattins) in the Church of St. Thomas the Martyr at 10:30 a.m., thereafter at 12:15 p.m. we attended the Provincial meeting in the Kings Hall at Newcastle University.
At the close of the meeting we, along other guests, attended a pre luncheon reception with our host R.E.Kt. Roderick Alan Hume the Provincial Grand Prior of Northumberland.
Once again we were treated to an excellent luncheon, taking place this year, in the Lindisfarm Room, King’s Road Centre, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, at which all the Fraters from Strathclyde were warmly welcomed not only by the Knights of the Province of Northumberland, but also by the visiting Knights from various other Provinces of England.
I am confident that all the Fraters from Strathclyde who attended, thoroughly enjoyed their time spent in the company of the Knights of the Province of Northumberland and we thank the R.E.Kt. Roderick Alan Hume and his Knights for the welcome and courtesy extended to us during our visit.
I look forward to being accompanied by some of our Fraters on the visit next year and for many years to come, and to strengthening the bond of friendship between Northumberland and Strathclyde that was started by my predecessor some 15 years ago.
Rt. Em. Fr. James M Pettigrew PP
